Year 1 Term 1 Lesson 7

This is the last lesson of the term, the mission for today was to present the song from the week before and present what we had learnt for the past whole term. We did not make up any slides, however, we made scripts so as to ensure that we do not repeat what we say. At first, when I read the different reflection I felt that we had a same idea towards the song and we were able to relate to the song at the same time. During the presentation, to my surprise, I was the only one who was able to relate. What surprised me more was because the chorus and like 70 percent of the song was thought up by Jie Xi but even he did not feel the music? It was quite upsetting to hear about that but at the same time, it gave me the chance to learn and grow, from this I realised that compromising might not always work well in a band, not everyone can be satisfied. Also, I feel that we need to voice ourselves out if there is something we can to make the song sound better if there is something we can do to b…

Year 1 Term 1 Lesson 6

In this lesson, we were supposed to produce our last song of the term. So, we were wondering what kind of song we should make. The song started out as a joke. To be very honest, I came out with the verse describing our classmate who always stares out of the window at nothing in particular, which was really comical as no one knows why he just stares out especially during CPT lesson. After coming out with the verse, I sang it to Darill and he added the chords. We presented it to the group and realised it actually came out having a really deep feeling as if someone is trying to break out of their own body. Like someone wants to be heard in this world. Then it was like a spark igniting his inspiration, Jiexi started singing in continuation to the verse. It sounded great so we ended up writing it down. It was also because we wanted to let him try making out some melody and lyrics as we realised from reviewing his work from the previous week that he had his own style of music which was uniq…

Year 1 Term 1 Lesson 4 & 5

This lesson is really different we were told to work on one of our songs made from the previous weeks, individually. Even though we were allowed to ask others to help us perform but we had to work on the song by ourselves and ensure that the performer expresses the emotions properly.  We were given 2 lessons to finish the whole song and post it up. Given the plenty amount of time, I became complacent, for the whole of the lesson I did not work on the song at all and only decided on which song to work on at the end of that lesson. For two hours, I was goofing around and jamming with my friends, it was good that I got to expose myself to some of my friends' talents but I was not disciplined enough to work on my song. This is a something I should not do in the music industry as I found out that if I do not treasure the time I have I would not be able to come up with good quality music as I would be rushing and I would not be able to earn much if I take up music as my career, as time …

Year 1 Term 1 Lesson 3

Today we strengthened our understanding of starting point. We were given a short video of a plastic bag drifting around and were told to make a reflection on it. In my reflection, I said that it reminded me of the song fireworks. Apparently, we were told at the end that the video was what inspired the song which surprised me. Not only because I guessed it but also because it was such a simple short video that inspired something big and famous. After our reflection, we did a small discussion and realised that our reflections were somewhat similar. Most of us see the plastic bag video as our lives, where we have our ups and downs, our motivation and even the obstacles we have as we walk through this life. So we decided to write something about how in life we have to face many difficulties by ourselves. Even when there may be people who have similar situations or people who are there for us we would have to still fight through our way as this is our lives and not theirs. This time we dec…

Plastic Bag Video

The video reminds me of the song "Fireworks" since the starting of the lyrics is "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind wanting to start again?" My inspiration from the video is that everyone in this world is like a plastic bag, we get pushed by external sources to move to places and sometimes we get pulled up high but before we know it we can also drop to the ground any time, what goes up will come down as the saying goes. Also in life as we move, our friends would come and go like the leaves on the floor somtimes following the plastic bag but sometimes getting left behind and we have to learn to deal with these changes. Lastly just like the wall, we might sometimes reach a dead end but if we allow things to push us on, we will rise once again like the plastic bag.
